BEREA, Ohio – Quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer will split time with the Cleveland Browns first-team offence against the Washington Redskins tonight in a game being hyped as a nationally televised matchup between Johnny Football and RG3, Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III. You can watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. Manziel, so full of swagger and cool, understands his limitations. Hes only a rookie. And as the celebrity quarterback prepares for Clevelands exhibition tonight in Washington, a game that could decide whether he or Hoyer starts the season opener at Pittsburgh on Sept. 7, Manziel acknowledged hes still got a lot to learn. "I dont think Im ready for Pittsburgh right now," he said. Manziel, though, was quick to point out that hes made progress during training camp, and he expects to get better running Clevelands offence. "Ive only played one game, but the more and more you see it, the more you get familiar with it, the better it will be," Manziel said after practice Saturday. Hoyer, who entered camp as the No. 1 QB and has done nothing to lose his starting job, was unaware that hes not part of the ratings campaign. "I dont watch ESPN," he said. "It doesnt matter, because what matters is what coach (Mike) Pettine thinks and what (offensive co-ordinator) Kyle (Shanahan) thinks. The media can make any story they want. I avoid all of that. When it comes down to it, theyre not the ones making the decisions." The Hoyer-Manziel competition is nearing its conclusion, and its still not clear if Pettine and his staff are leaning in one direction.Pettine is determined to get his two QBs an even amount of snaps against the Redskins. Pettine said hell reach out to Washington coach Jay Gruden to find out his plans to use his starters so he can ensure that Hoyer and Manziel face similar competition. "If we have to make some adjustments to get the matchups we want then we will," Pettine said. Pettine plans to meet with his staff and pick a starter Tuesday. While most of the country is eager to see what Manziel will do on the Monday night stage, the Heisman Trophy winner is staying calm and focused. "I dont think theres any pressure for me," he said. "Im still learning. Im still growing. This is my second game. My expectations arent through the roof. Its go out and compete extremely hard, be a leader for those guys, whatever group Im with, and well see what happens." After his off-field behaviour in the off-season was widely scrutinized, Manziel is finding his habits are always being watched. He conceded to being late for a meeting on Monday morning after he misread a change in the teams schedule. Manziel said he and Pettine talked and have "moved on." "It was an honest mistake and something I need to learn from and make sure it doesnt happen again," Manziel said. As for Hoyer, he hasnt changed his belief that the Browns are his team. While dealing with the hysteria caused by Manziel, he has maintained hes only trying to become the best quarterback possible. There may be signs that Manziel is Clevelands quarterback of the future, but Hoyer is only concerned with the here and now. Hes aware that Pettine said the Week 1 starter should not think its a permanent gig. "Its a situation I dealt with last year when I came in and we kind of said it was a week to week thing," he said. Hoyer also heard the trade speculation that began when the Browns signed veteran quarterback Rex Grossman earlier this week. Its not worth worrying about. "I guess people were trying to connect the dots and thats your job to do that," he said. "For me, Im not concerned about anything like that. Im looking forward to being the starting quarterback here. " NOTES: CB Buster Skrine may need surgery after injuring his thumb and will likely miss the remainder of the preseason. Pettine expects hell be available for the opener. Skrine has been battling rookie CB Justin Gilbert for a starting spot. ... DE Desmond Bryant is getting a second opinion before he possibly has wrist surgery, Pettine said. ... WR Josh Gordon practiced after missing time with an abdominal injury, but its not certain if hell face the Redskins. The Browns are still awaiting a ruling from the league on Gordons potential suspension. "We respect that theres a process," Pettine said. "Id be a liar if I said it wasnt frustrating." The running back told The Tennessean he was having surgery in Pensacola, Fla. Joe DiMaggio Jersey . - Maxence Parrot of Bromont, Que.LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins made official Monday what hes been telling folks all along: Hes headed to the NBA after his only season with the Jayhawks. The 6-foot-8 forward, who was voted second-team All-America earlier in the day, is expected to go in the top three picks in the June draft. Many believe he could go first overall. "It wasnt an easy decision because the fans showed me so much love here," said Wiggins, choking up briefly during a news conference at Allen Fieldhouse. "I just wish I had more time. College goes by so fast. I can see why people stay all four years." The Canadian was the top-rated recruit when he arrived at Kansas, and his brief career was a bit of a roller coaster. He struggled early in the season, caught fire midway through, and then flamed out when it mattered most in an NCAA tournament loss to Stanford. Wiggins, from Vaughan, Ont., only scored four points on 1-for-6 shooting in the third-round defeat. Afterward, he said despondently that he let his team down with his poor performance. That ultimately didnt have any bearing on his decision, though. He announced he was going pro while joined by Kansas coach Bill Self, his parents -- former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and Olympic silver medallist Marita Payne Wiggins -- his older brother Mitchell Jr., and several of his teammates, including fellow freshmen Wayne Selden and Joel Embiid. Selden has already announced hes returning for his sophomore season. Embiid has not made a decision, even though hes also expected to be a top-five pick in the draft. Wiggins certainly had a historic season at Kansas. He averaged a freshman-record 17.1 points and nearly six rebounds per game, and was voted the APs Big 12 freshman of the year and first-team all-conference. "Obviously this announcement needed to happen," said Self, who believes one of the biggest challenges Wiggins will face is realizing that basketball will suddenly become his job. "Its not like this year. He came in with so much hype, and whether he knew it or not, everybody was salivating for a chance to go against a guy with that much hype," Self said.dddddddddddd. "And hes going to the next level with a lot of hype, but men are going to be saying, Whoa, whoa, whoa, rook. Ive been doing this a long time and youre going to have to earn your way." Wiggins simply flashed a smile when asked if he was ready for it. "Just listening to him now," his father said, "Im thinking about when he was that little bitty kid that was dirty, and not listening, and now? Hes a young man that I think gets it. I think hes going to do very well." Hes also made it through his freshman season healthy. Unlike Embiid, Wiggins never had to deal with any nagging injuries, and his mother said that factored into his decision. "The best thing is hes not injured. Hes able to go ahead and complete part of his goals," she said. "Every day is a new day. He has no injuries and hes ready to go." Self said Embiid is still wrestling with his stay-or-go decision. The 7-footer from Cameroon was waylaid late in the season by a stress fracture in his back, and that could factor into Embiids draft status, along with the fact that hes only been playing basketball for a few years. Embiid slipped out of the room immediately after Wiggins had finished speaking Monday, but Self told a few reporters that he had not made his decision, despite a report last week that said Embiid would enter the draft. "That doesnt mean he couldnt still do that, but that was gun-jumping," Self said. "It certainly upset him, because somebody that was a source obviously didnt have good information." Self doesnt expect Embiid to make his intentions known anytime soon. "The decision he needs to make is whats best for him," Self said, "whether to stay another year or to go, and I could see him do either one of them. And I think you could make a case that either one would be a good decision. Hes not quite like Andrew whos been playing the game his whole life. Hes only been playing three years. Hes still trying to figure it out."
